Propofol……10 mg An intravenous anesthetic indicated for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia, sedation of mechanically ventilated adult patients in intensive care units, and sedation during surgical and invasive procedures. Adults
1. Induction of General Anesthesia
Administer slowly by intravenous injection or infusion at a rate of approximately 20–40 mg every 10 seconds.
Dosage:
• General adults (≤55 years): 1.5–2.5 mg/kg.
• Elderly patients, patients with ASA Grade III–IV, or patients with impaired cardiac function: Reduce the dose and slow the administration rate. Administer approximately 2 mL, equivalent to 20 mg, every 10 seconds. The total dose may be reduced to a minimum of 1 mg/kg.

2. Maintenance of General Anesthesia
• Repeated intravenous injections: 25–50 mg per dose.
• Continuous intravenous infusion: The usual rate is 4–12 mg/kg/hr.
• For elderly patients, patients with ASA Grade III–IV, or hypovolemic patients, reduce the dose according to the severity of the patient’s condition and the anesthetic technique used.

Children (≥1 month of age)
1. Induction of General Anesthesia
• ≥8 years: Approximately 2.5 mg/kg.
• <8 years: 2.5–4.0 mg/kg.
• ASA Grade III–IV: A lower dose is recommended.

2. Maintenance of Anesthesia
• 9–15 mg/kg. Children under 3 years of age may require higher doses; adjust according to individual needs.
• Restrictions: Must not be used for the induction or maintenance of anesthesia in children under 1 month of age.
• Duration of anesthesia maintenance: For children under 3 years of age, the usual duration is 20 minutes, with a maximum of 75 minutes.
• Not recommended for sedation during diagnostic or surgical procedures in patients under 16 years of age.

Sedation in Intensive Care
• Continuous intravenous infusion at a usual rate of 0.3–4.0 mg/kg/hr, adjusted according to the required depth of sedation.

Sedation for Surgical or Invasive Procedures
• Induction: Most patients require 0.5–1 mg/kg, with sedation commencing within approximately 1–5 minutes.
• Maintenance: Most patients require 1.5–4.5 mg/kg body weight/hr.
• Rapid deepening of sedation: In addition to intravenous infusion, 10–20 mg may be administered intravenously if a rapid increase in the level of sedation is required.
• Patients over 55 years of age and patients with ASA Grade III or IV: The administration rate and dose should be reduced.
